That I can’t watch the 7th game of the divisional round of the NY Rangers-Wash. Caps game because it’s on a network that apparently only 3 people have in this country have. (NBCsports). I want to hear Sam Rosen yell “SCOREEEEEE!” (I miss JD). As was apparent, it was another nail-biter tonight, but the Rangers came out victorious.
I feel ashamed. I was the biggest Rangers fan between 86-97. I moved out to CA, where they couldn’t care less about hockey or their own team. I found out about Messier’s hat trick in game 6, jumping up and down over my future building manager’s apartment. Then hearing Howie Rose’s cry of “Matthieu! Matthieu! Matthieu!” on California’s tallest mountain.
For whatever reason why, hockey went away from me. I think the Rangers reached the conference finals in ’97 where they lost to the Flyers (I remember listening to that game over internet radio). Then saw Gretzky’s last game trying to get them into the playoffs. JD left to become St. Louis’ President & GM and all my heroes retired or got traded.
Then the 2004 strike locked out the entire season.
Rules were changed ( HA! no more neutral zone trap, you frigging NJ Devils!. Haven’t done so well lately, have you?!)
Then they switched colors in uni’s — white was the new road uniforms and vice-versa. HATE THAT CHANGE!!!
Then the players wore all these stupid numbers. The high numbers used to reflect the great players. 99 for Gretz, 66 for Lemieux, 68 for Jagr, etc. Now everybody has numbers like those.
Ever since the strike ended, I am still not sure of all the rule changes. For example, I still don’t know what that trapezoid box behind the goalies mean.
And I miss JD
Let’s go RANGERS!
